      Michael Hsu Office of Architecture is an award-winning, fully integrated architecture and interior design practice with offices in Austin and Houston.       About the Position

      We are seeking an experienced Interior Designer to join our Austin office. This role is ideal for a designer who is ready to take ownership of meaningful portions of a project while continuing to grow their technical, design, and project leadership skills. Working alongside experienced project leaders and design teams, this individual will contribute to projects across a variety of scales and typologies, helping translate design concepts into thoughtful, well-executed spaces and experiences.

      The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in interior design, a passion for creating memorable environments, and a desire to contribute to both the creative and technical aspects of project delivery. They are comfortable collaborating across disciplines, communicating clearly with team members and consultants, and managing their work with increasing independence and accountability.

      This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX, requiring a minimum of three days per week working in person from our Austin office.

       

      Responsibilities Include

      • Contributing to the design and delivery of projects across a variety of scales, typologies, and phases of design
      • Developing interior design concepts and translating them into coordinated drawings, details, renderings, presentations, and construction documents
      • Creating mood boards, finish palettes, material studies, and presentation materials that communicate design intent clearly and effectively
      • Assisting with the selection, specification, and coordination of finishes, fixtures, furnishings, artwork, and accessories
      • Contributing to the design and coordination of custom furniture, millwork, lighting, and other bespoke interior elements
      • Coordinating with consultants, vendors, and internal team members to maintain project alignment and documentation quality
      • Supporting construction administration efforts, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and assisting with field observations
      • Taking ownership of assigned portions of a project while proactively communicating progress, questions, and potential coordination issues
      • Participating on multiple concurrent projects in various capacities

       

      Job Requirements

      • 3+ years of professional interior design experience, including design and construction document production for commercial, hospitality, residential, or mixed-use projects
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA-accredited university
      • Ability to commute to our Austin, TX office a minimum of three days per week
      • Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD
      • Working knowledge of interior design practice, including design documentation, detailing, building materials, building systems, applicable building codes, and construction technologies
      • Strong understanding of finishes, fixtures, furnishings, lighting, artwork, and decorative elements
      • Demonstrated design ability and a strong portfolio of academic and professional work
      • Strong technical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail
      • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively across multiple projects simultaneously
      • Positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to collaborate within a team environment

       

      Work Environment & Physical Requirements

      This position is primarily performed in an office environment, with periodic travel to project sites, construction sites, client meetings, vendor showrooms, and other project-related locations.

      To perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to:

      • Remain stationary and work at a computer workstation for extended periods throughout the workday
      • Frequently operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
      • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and team members in person, by phone, and electronically
      • Travel to project sites, client meetings, construction sites, and vendor locations as needed
      • Move throughout active construction sites, existing buildings, project sites, and showroom environments, which may include walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and navigating uneven surfaces
      • Observe and assess project conditions, construction progress, design details, and installed work
      • Occasionally transport project materials, samples, presentation materials, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
      • Visually review drawings, specifications, project documentation, and digital design tools for extended periods
