The design for the first California Shake Shack is inspired by the exaggerated horizontal and angular lines of mid-century burger stand architecture. A large, landscaped lined patio brings seating to the street edge to observe the active West Hollywood streetscape. Recalling the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, a wood slatted canopy provides dappled shade and a large magnolia tree anchors the patio with custom lights playfully hanging around. Large glass windows connect the outside to in, while the iconic corrugated metal siding here used in white reflects the vibrant California sun. The white exterior is contrasted with warm wood, lush green plantings and bold black and white patterned tile. To reflect the vibrant artist community of the neighborhood, a colorful mural completed by a local artist anchors the street corner. In collaboration with Burch Architects.
