Our Austin office includes the previous remodel of an existing building as well as a new 2,200 square foot addition. The design begins with the simplest of forms and a limited palette of materials to start a conversation about pattern and field. White plaster stucco, glass and oxidized Cor-Ten steel speak to texture, color and transparency. The metalwork, as seen in the softly curving window box, entry desk and handrails was conceived in collaboration with local craftspeople. At night, glowing light from the large windows spills to the courtyards and a custom sconce marks the entry. Inside, the roof structure is exposed and neutralized in white, complimented by warm, variegated locally-sourced pecan wood walls and floors. Steel reappears in a custom-designed reception desk, where it carefully integrates into the curved oak stair handrail. Large windows and a skylight bathe the spaces in daylight and connect to the yards beyond.
